Duurzaam beleggingsfonds Meewind participeert vanaf vandaag in econic. Met een investering van 5 miljoen euro wil Meewind bijdragen aan de volgende groeistap van ons bedrijf dat, aldus Meewind, met ons ‘sustainability-as-a-service’-concept een belangrijke bijdrage levert aan het versnellen van de energietransitie.
Meewind investeert in bedrijven en projecten die bijdragen aan de transitie naar een groene-energievoorziening. Het fonds investeert al in Greenchoice, OrangeGas, Greener en vele andere zon-, wind-, geothermie- en groengasprojecten. De nieuwe belegging in econic sluit perfect aan bij de koers van het fonds.
Duurzame koploper
Johan Swager, fondsmanager bij Meewind, over de nieuwe investering: “Meewind investeert bij voorkeur in succesvolle bedrijven die een stevig fundament voor een duurzame toekomst leggen en meer zijn dan een incidenteel project. Econic heeft bewezen zo’n duurzame koploper te zijn. Met hun ‘sustainability-as-a-service’-concept hoeven woningbezitters zelf niet te investeren in apparaten zoals warmtepompen en zonnepanelen. En kunnen projectontwikkelaars de bouwsom van hun project aanzienlijk verlagen. Gezien de resultaten tot nu toe, de groeiambities en de ervaring van de oprichters past dit dan ook goed bij onze eigen ambitie. Meewind groeit graag mee met de bedrijven waarin het investeert en blijft die vervolgens steunen op hun groeipad.”
Asset based financiering van 250 miljoen
De kapitaalinjectie stelt econic in staat om nog sneller door te groeien en met innovaties te komen die tot nu toe in de markt nog lastig bleken, aldus Joris Jonker, een van de oprichters van econic: “Om de doelen voor CO₂-reductie in de gebouwde omgeving te halen moeten er in Nederland 1.000 huizen per dag worden verduurzaamd, ons doel is om daarvan 200 woningen per dag te doen. Dit is een immense opgave, maar mede dankzij deze investering kunnen we 10.000 nieuwe e-homes realiseren. Verder helpt deze kapitaalinjectie ons om versneld toegang te krijgen tot een assetfinanciering van 250 miljoen die nodig is om op korte termijn de energietransitie te versnellen. In die fase neemt Meewind de junior financiering op zich, voor de senior financiering werken we samen met grootbanken, pensioenfondsen en de overheid.”

Access to 250 million asset-based financing
The current capital injection enables econic to accelerate its growth even faster and to come up with the innovative solutions that have, until now, proven to be quite complicated for the market. Joris Jonker, one of econic’s three founders, says: “To achieve CO₂-reduction targets in established builds, 1,000 Dutch homes need to be made sustainable per day; our goal is to make e-homes available for everyone and cover 200 of these homes every day. A monumental challenge, but this investment enables us to realise 10,000 new e-homes. Furthermore, this capital injection allows us fast-track access to a 250 million euro asset financing needed to accelerate the energy transition in the short term. During this phase, Meewind will shoulder junior financing; for senior financing, we will work with major banks, pension funds, and the government.”
